Us Mamas had plans, there was a castle to see a short hike away. They came grumbling about home and oranges and bees. We saw the castle (really just the ruins of an old mansion). It could have ended there, two Mamas on a hike with grumbling kids. But then there was a request for water, then a rock to sit on, and shoes removed, and ‘I don’t think they can hear us over here.’ So we had a few hours on a rock while they made nests, hid from imaginary enemies, raced, and jumped and played with lady bugs. Then dark and gray the clouds yelled to us rush now we need to pee. And so us two Mamas with two bubbling kids headed home, down from Mount Falcon, knowing next time we’ll find a lake, or a field, bring a blanket and call it good.
